Agricultural Society of South Carolina records, 1785-1860.

Two bound volumes, clippings, a circular, an indenture, lists, and notes pertaining to agriculture and the Agricultural Society of South Carolina. Volume 1 contains handwritten "Extract from Brevard's Alphabetical Digest of the Public Statute Law of South Carolina," a pamphlet entitled "Constitution of the Agricultural Society of South-Carolina" (Charleston, S.C.: A.E. Miller, 1834) with handwritten annotations and amendments, a pamphlet entitled "Address and rules of the South Carolina Society for Promoting and Improving Agriculture and Other Rural Concerns" (Charleston, S.C.: A.E. Miller, 1821) including handwritten annotations and additions, extracts (1785) from the society's journals listing the names of individuals who formed the society, and a list of members (1788-1858) and their dates of death or resignation. Volume 2 contains clippings concerning various agricultural societies and agricultural related information and activities, handwritten notes about agricultural inventions and improvements extracted from newspapers, wine accounts (1836-1855), and minutes (1825-1860) from meetings and reports of premiums awarded. Loose items include clippings about agriculture and the society, lists (1837, 1844) of members, a circular to district societies and citizens of South Carolina concerning forming a State Agricultural Society and containing the constitution of the State Agricultural Society of South Carolina, a letter of resignation (1860) from L.C. Clifford, and a letter (1795) from Charles Cotesworth Pinckney to Jonathan Lucas, Sr., and an indenture (1815/1831) of Nathaniel Greene Cleary (Charleston, S.C. sheriff) and Stephen Elliott concerning a tract of land of Theodore Gaillard, Jr.
